In a Nutshell...
Experience a South African bush walking safari in the Greater Kruger National Park area. Submerge yourself in a relaxing bush environment or opt to go on daily guided walks through the bush. The Tomjachu Bush Retreat offers a relaxing countryside holiday, with the perfect mix of leisure, scenery and wildlife.
What to look forward to:
From the tough climb of Zebra Heights to the waterside walks along the Tipperary River and unspoilt thicket to an extraordinary ancient canyon with waterfalls and pools, there is a trail to suit any fitness level. The guided walks range from basic level, to intrepid ‘off the beaten path’ hikes, where the ranger follows game paths to some of the more remote locations on the property - ‘off-road’ hiking if you like! They do not have the big 5, allowing you to walk freely among the stunning African wildlife in the open plains and enjoy the true beauty of Tomjachu Bush Retreat.
The walking trails are focused on educating guests on the safari environment as a whole, including the insect and plant life, general game (giraffe, zebra and impalas) habitats of certain smaller animals as well as vegetation. There is always a chance of encountering one of the larger animals on foot as well. On the property, Tomjachu Bush Retreat visitors can spot the following: Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Kudu, Ostrich, Bushbuck, Blesbok, Waterbuck, Nyala, Impala, Red Duiker, Common Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck, Klipspringer, Jackal, Warthog, Wild Pig, Porcupine, Honey Badger, Bushbaby, Genet, Civet, Vervet Monkey, Baboon and Cape Clawless Otter.
The best times to view game on your walking safari in South Africa, are the early hours of the morning and during the late afternoon. This is when most game is active during the heat of the day, many animals tend to seek shade and are less active. There is no better place to learn the unseen secrets of the bush than on one of the guided walks with their game ranger. Open your eyes to the wonderful world of the African bushveld.
